SAN ANTONIO DREAMERS WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR HUTCHISON NOVEMBER 29TH SIT-IN!!!

BREAKING: San Antonio DREAMers Will Not Be Charged

Posted on 13. Dec, 2010 by Sara InĆ©s CalderĆ³n in Education
As we reported at the end of last month, DREAM Act protesters in Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison’s San Antonio, Texas offices were arrested after a sit-in there. Carlos Guerra made the point that it was the City of San Antonio via its Port of San Antonio arm that had the DREAMers arrested.
NewsTaco has exclusively learned that the Port will NOT pursue charges against those arrested on November 29, according to Port Public Information Manager Paco Felici.
An attorney for seven of those arrested, Ricardo Briones, said the Port’s decision was news to him. “Awesome,” he says, noting that the arrests were of concern to several of the students, who have plans to become teachers and professors. “This is a relief. If they’re not going to press charges that’s so cool, it’s up to the DA to drop charges, so we’re not out of the ballpark yet.”
The DREAMers in San Antonio have been on a hunger strike for more than 30 days now. A court date to address their charges was set tentatively in January.

SAN ANTONIO ESCALATES SUPPORT FOR DREAMERZ!

***For Immediate Release, December 2, 2010***
UTSA Students Overwhelmingly Support Provisions of the DREAM Act
According to a recent poll conducted by UTSA political science professors Walter Wilson and Amy Jasperson, UTSA students of both genders, all racial and ethnic demographics, and all major political affiliations overwhelmingly support policy provisions contained in the DREAM Act, which would provide a path to legalization for certain undocumented immigrants and is now pending before Congress.
The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, would place undocumented immigrants who arrived in the United States as minors a path to legal residency if they graduate from high school, stay out of legal trouble, and either serve in the military or attend college. By a ratio of more than 8 to 1, UTSA students support proposals to give individuals who meet these requirements the opportunity to become legal residents. Democrats and Latinos were most likely to support DREAM Act provisions: Democrats by a ratio of 22 to 1, and Latinos by a ratio of 18 to 1. Anglos and Republicans were also overwhelmingly supportive. White respondents supported DREAM Act provisions by a ratio of more than 5 to 1, and Republican respondents supported DREAM Act provisions by a ratio of more than 3 to 1. Further details on survey responses are provided below:
Should undocumented immigrants who arrive in the U.S. as minors, graduate from High School, obey local laws, and either serve in the military or attend college be placed on a path to legal residency?
